Women of Noise

Women of Noise (WoN) is a concert series that presents itself as a space for the work of women in music to be heard. It aims to provide the opportunity to hear familiar names, curiously hidden gems across a vibrant program of solo, chamber and large ensemble repertoire from Australia and beyond. This project mainly features students, staff and alumni from Queensland Conservatorium of Music Griffith University (QCGU) as well as local and international talents.

The first WoN concert took place on the 8th of March 2018 in Brisbane to celebrate International Women’s Day. The repertoire range showcased both women from the 20th century such as Imogen Holst, and contemporary composers like Anne Le Baron, Kaja Sariaaho and Kate Moore. Additionally, two new works have been commissioned and premiered at the concert, presenting me and my friend and fellow-composer Jasmin Leung

My new work for the project is called How to Discipline a Curious Mind and depicts a conflicting dialogue between a woman (Lily Bryant flute) and a man (Claudia Legget horn) while accompanied by marimba (Grace Kruger).

In the 2019, Women of Noise once again invite the curious listener to explore the modern music and creative talents of women, locally and internationally. This time, I’m proud to be a crew member along with the amazing Phoebe Bognar, Sasha Walker, Anna Rabinowicz and Courtney Lovell.
